Meta contractors protesting layoffs
The contractors, employed by Meta’s European headquarters through a staffing agency, claim that the company is only offering them minimal severance packages and no additional support during the transition period. In contrast, Mark Zuckerberg – Meta’s CEO – stands to receive an estimated $700 million in stock grants as part of his compensation package. The contractors argue that this disparity is unacceptable and unfair, given their crucial role in maintaining Meta’s infrastructure. “We’re just getting the crumbs here,” said one contractor, who wished to remain anonymous. “We know we’re not being treated like full-time employees – that’s clear from the way we’re being laid off.” The contractors have been speaking out against the layoffs and advocating for better treatment. Many are expressing frustration with the company’s lack of transparency and communication throughout the process. While Meta has stated that it is restructuring to remain competitive, the contractors see this as a thinly veiled excuse for cost-cutting measures.
