Meta Cuts Back on Metaverse Efforts Amid Restructuring Efforts
Meta is significantly downsizing its Reality Labs division as part of a broader restructuring effort aimed at streamlining its metaverse strategy and focusing resources on higher-priority initiatives. The company is laying off around 10 percent of its employees in this area, with some studios being closed down entirely. Twisted Pixel Games, the developer behind Marvel’s Deadpool VR, Sanzaru Games, which handled the Asgard’s Wrath franchise, and Armature Studio, responsible for the Resident Evil 4 VR port, are among the affected units. The team working on the popular VR fitness app Supernatural will cease development of new content and features, although existing products will continue to be supported.
