Meta Set to Meet Its AI Data Center Power Needs with Nuclear Deal
Meta has secured agreements with three major nuclear power providers in a bid to meet its burgeoning energy demands for artificial intelligence data centers. The partnerships, established with TerraPower, Oklo, and Vistra, are expected to deliver 6.6 gigawatts of electricity by 2035 - sufficient to power the entire country of Ireland. As part of the agreements, Meta will be funding the construction of new nuclear reactors, marking a significant expansion of its nuclear ambitions. The deal is particularly notable given that two of the providers, TerraPower and Oklo, are backed by prominent figures in the tech industry: Bill Gates and Sam Altman, respectively.
