Meta to Slash 10% of Staff Amid Ongoing AI Investments
According to a memo from Meta’s chief people officer, Janelle Gale, the company plans to lay off around 10 percent of its workforce in May, with approximately 8,000 employees facing job cuts. This move comes after significant investments in artificial intelligence, including large sums spent on hiring top talent and building data centers. The layoffs are part of a broader restructuring effort as Meta prepares for an increased capital expenditure budget of $115 billion to $135 billion in 2026, up from $72.22 billion the previous year.
