Meta to Tone Down PG-13 Rating References on Instagram Amid MPA Push
Meta has agreed to modify its content guidelines for Instagram’s 13+ teen accounts in response to feedback from the Motion Picture Association (MPA). The move follows a cease-and-desist order sent by the MPA just months prior, which prompted Meta to reevaluate how it describes its restrictions on explicit content. According to a spokesperson, the platform will reduce references to PG-13 ratings, but maintain the existing 13+ content guidelines that prohibit nudity, sexual content, and suggestive poses from appearing in teen accounts. The agreement aims to strike a balance between ensuring user safety while avoiding potential copyright infringement concerns raised by the MPA.
