Meta's AI Support Chatbot Hacked by Cybercriminals, Used to Hijack Instagram Accounts
A group of hackers has found a vulnerability in Meta’s AI-powered support chatbot, which allows them to hijack Instagram accounts by manipulating the associated email address and resetting the password. The security breach was discovered around the same time that high-profile accounts, including Barack Obama’s White House account on Instagram, were compromised. According to a video shared on Telegram, the hackers used Meta’s chatbot to switch the email associated with someone else’s profile and then reset the password. This allowed them to gain unauthorized access to the target account and take control of it. Meta has since patched the issue, but not before it was discovered that the same vulnerability had been exploited by cybercriminals to hack into the Instagram accounts of a US Space Force official. The incident highlights the potential risks associated with AI-powered chatbots, which can be vulnerable to exploitation if not properly secured.
