Microsoft Revives Secure Boot with New Security Certificates
Microsoft has announced that it will continue Secure Boot, a security feature introduced in 2011, by automatically replacing its boot-level security certificates before they expire later this year. As part of Windows updates, new Secure Boot certificates will be rolled out as part of the regular platform updates. This marks a “generational refresh” of the security standard, ensuring continued protection against unauthorized changes during the boot process. The current 2011 Secure Boot certificates are set to expire between June and October 2026, prompting Microsoft to introduce a new batch of certificates to maintain system integrity. The decision underscores Microsoft’s commitment to keeping its users’ systems secure, even as technology advances.
