Microsoft Unveils Project Solara, A New OS for AI-Powered Gadgets
Project Solara is a new operating system designed specifically for gadgets that run artificial intelligence agents. This platform, built from scratch on Android, aims to empower agent-driven experiences. To demonstrate its capabilities, Microsoft showcased two concept devices at Build 2026: Desk and Badge. The desk device resembles an Amazon Echo Show, featuring facial recognition for unlocking and access to AI-powered assistants. The badge concept is a wearable badge that typically grants access to workplaces, equipped with cameras and fingerprint scanners to wake up AI agents. This new OS marks Microsoft’s entry into the agent-driven ecosystem, positioning it to capitalize on the growing demand for intelligent devices that can learn and adapt over time.
