ProPublica Staff Embark on Digital Picket Line Over AI, Layoffs and Wages Concerns
The staff of ProPublica, one of the country’s leading nonprofit newsrooms, has gone on strike to protest issues including the use of artificial intelligence (AI), layoffs, and wage disparities. The approximately 150 unionized employees are seeking protections for workers and a more equitable compensation package. As negotiations for a collective bargaining agreement stall, the ProPublica Guild is urging the public to support their efforts through a digital picket line. The strike marks a significant escalation in the union’s campaign to address its concerns, which have been ongoing since the staff unionized in 2023.
