Raspberry Pi Launches $130 AI HAT+ 2 Add-On Board with 8GB of RAM for Locally Running Gen AI Models
The Raspberry Pi is introducing a new add-on board, the AI HAT+ 2, which enables the local execution of generative AI models on the Raspberry Pi 5. Priced at $130, this upgraded module offers 8GB of RAM and a Hailo 10H chip with 40 TOPS of AI processing performance. The AI HAT+ 2 features onboard RAM, allowing it to run small gen AI models like Llama 3.2 and DeepSeq, whereas its predecessor focused on image-based AI processing. When connected, the Raspberry Pi 5 leverages the AI HAT+ 2’s capabilities to handle AI-related workloads while utilizing the main board’s Arm CPU for other tasks. This new add-on board represents an improvement over its predecessor, which was a more affordable and less powerful option. With the AI HAT+ 2, users can now run demanding gen AI models on their Raspberry Pi devices, further expanding the platform’s capabilities in the realm of artificial intelligence.
