Record Fewer Words: Researchers Find Slump in Human Conversation
A recent study published in a medical journal has revealed a significant decline in human conversation over the past decade and a half. Conducted by researchers from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and the University of Arizona, the study analyzed data from 22 studies involving over 2,000 participants who recorded their daily conversations on audio. The findings show that between 2005 and 2019, the average number of words spoken out loud to another person decreased by nearly 28%. This decline is attributed to various factors such as the rise of online ordering and texting, which have reduced face-to-face interactions and led to a shift towards more digital communication methods.
