Reverse-Engineered Google AI Watermark System Allows Tampering.
A software developer, identified as Aloshdenny, claims to have successfully reverse-engineered Google DeepMind’s SynthID system, which is used to embed digital watermarks into AI-generated images. According to Aloshdenny, the process requires only 200 images generated by the AI tool Gemini, signal processing, and sufficient free time. The developer has open-sourced their work on GitHub, detailing the steps involved in stripping existing watermarks from images or manually inserting new ones. Google has denied the claim made by Aloshdenny, stating that his actions are not authorized and may violate their terms of service.
