Roblox Tightens Chat Security with New Age Verification Process
Roblox is implementing a new requirement for users who want to use its chat features, mandating that all users undergo an age estimation process to verify their age before engaging in real-time conversations. This move follows the company’s previous announcement of the policy in November 2025 and its rollout to select regions including Australia, New Zealand, and the Netherlands in December. The new requirement applies to “all regions where chat is available”, according to Roblox. The technology used for this process is provided by Persona, a company that also partners with Reddit on their age verification measures. For users who disagree with the results of their age check, they have the option to appeal through ID verification, while parents can also be involved in verifying their child’s age. The new policy aims to protect young users from potential online harassment and exploitation by ensuring that only eligible individuals are allowed to engage in real-time conversations on the platform.
