Samsung Averts Memory Chip Strike with Tentative Deal
A tentative agreement was reached between Samsung Electronics and its workers, averting an 18-day planned strike that would have halted production at the company’s domestic chipmaking plants. The deal comes after more than 47,000 Samsung Electronics employees gathered outside the semiconductor plant in Pyeongtaek on April 23rd, signaling their intention to go on strike. The strike was set to start on Thursday, and its cancellation has alleviated concerns about the already strained production of memory chips amid a global shortage. A vote by the union will determine whether the deal is accepted, allowing work to resume at the affected plants.
