Smart Home Innovator Unveils Wooden Controller
The Mui Board is a screen-free interface for controlling smart home devices. As a tech journalist, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing several innovative products transform from concept to reality – and finally, into my own living space. This year, I witnessed one such product take shape with the Mui Board, a smart home controller crafted from a piece of wood. Originally debuted at CES in 2019, the Mui has undergone several iterations, with each iteration promising a release date that inevitably delayed its arrival. I’m pleased to report that this year’s shipment finally arrived, and I had the opportunity to test it in my own living room. The result was a surprisingly seamless experience – despite being a wooden controller, it still managed to seamlessly integrate various smart home devices into my setup. One of the standout features of the Mui Board is its minimalist design. Gone are the cluttered interfaces and endless buttons found on traditional smart home controllers. Instead, users are presented with an intuitive interface that allows for effortless control over their devices. The Mui Board supports a range of compatible smart home systems, including Mat (which I’ll discuss further below), as well as other popular platforms. With a solid foundation laid by its creators, this wooden wonder is poised to shake up the traditional smart home controller landscape – and maybe even change our perceptions of what a “smart” device looks like.
