Tech Giants Face Pressure to Fund New Power Plants in Mid-Atlantic Region
In a bid to address growing energy concerns, a bipartisan group of governors and the Trump administration are pushing for data center operators like Amazon Web Services and Microsoft to foot the bill for new power plants in the Mid-Atlantic region. The PJM Interconnection, the largest electricity market in the US, is being urged to hold an emergency auction to secure long-term contracts with companies looking to procure electricity over a 15-year period. This extended contract duration aims to simplify the process of building out new infrastructure by providing guaranteed revenue and deterring speculative requests from data center developers seeking to connect to the grid.
