The Verge Redesign: What's Working, What Needs Improvement
We’ve been reading your feedback on the new homepage, and we appreciate it. The kind and encouraging comments, the brutal ones, and the bug reports - all of it helps us understand where the experience is landing or missing the mark. We’re looking at feedback into three buckets: fixes, explorations, and ideas that aren’t currently on the roadmap. The top priority list includes fixing bugs and rough edges, such as the scrollbar presence on the feed, adding “Read More” from groups of stories when there’s something to link to, and providing a way to read more from categories toward the bottom of the page. We’re actively investigating how to improve the Latest feed presentation and engagement, address dark mode requests, and explore ways to mark stories as read vs. unread for personalized experiences. We’ve decided not to pursue some ideas, like reviving free-to-read sections or reworking the page structure, at least for now. These decisions are deliberate and weigh against time, resources, complexity, editorial needs, business priorities, and our long-term vision for The Verge. We’ll keep prioritizing and working through tradeoffs and constraints, staying open about what we’re seeing and learning as we go. We encourage you to continue sharing your feedback in the comments, using our feedback form, joining our user research group, or reaching out directly to our product team at [email protected].
