Threads Introduces 'Dear Algo' Feature to Give Users More Control Over Recommended Posts
Threads, a social media platform owned by Meta, has launched a new feature called “Dear Algo” that allows users in the US to tell the algorithm what type of content they want to see in their feed. To access this feature, users simply write “Dear Algo” in a post and explain what they’re looking for, such as specific topics or types of posts. The idea behind Dear Algo is to give users more control over the content that is recommended to them, allowing them to shape their online experience. The concept of Dear Algo was born out of user experimentation on Threads, where individuals began posting “Dear Algo” alongside their messages in an attempt to influence what they saw in their feed. Meta took notice of this trend and decided to formalize the feature as part of a broader effort to empower users across its platforms. Following successful testing in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the UK, the Dear Algo feature is now launching in the US. Meta plans to continue iterating on the feature based on community feedback before rolling out any further updates.
