Toyota Unveils Fluorite Game Engine for In-Car Interfaces
Eurogamer reported earlier that Toyota Connected North America is exploring game engines as a viable option for developing digital cockpit interfaces in their vehicles. Fluorite, developed by Very Good Ventures, a company also partnering with Automotive Grade Linux, is a game engine designed specifically for use in cars. The engine’s lead engineer, Jamie Kerber, explained at the FOSDEM 2026 conference that utilizing a game engine can facilitate features such as step-by-step 3D tutorials, environmental mapping, and more natural control interfaces. The use of game engines like Fluorite is notable given Epic Games’ efforts to promote Unreal Engine for in-car interfaces, with companies visualizing and designing these systems using the software. Toyota’s adoption of Fluorite may signal a shift towards alternative engine solutions for car manufacturers seeking more efficient and effective digital cockpit experiences.
