Whistle for Resistance
A group of whistles has been distributed to 49 US states as a means of alerting neighbors when Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents are present. The initiative was spearheaded by romance novelists Kit Rocha and Courtney Milan, who aimed to create a community-driven solution for the growing concern of ICE abductions. Whistles can serve as an early warning system, allowing neighbors to take action and potentially prevent these incidents. With the support of printing services like Shapeways, 3D-printed whistles have been made available for free, enabling individuals to print their own devices at home or purchase them online. The distribution of the whistles has been accelerated, with 200,000 units shipped out in just one week alone. This grassroots effort has garnered significant attention and participation from across the country. Individuals are taking matters into their own hands by printing and sharing these whistles, fostering a sense of community and collective resistance against ICE’s presence in their neighborhoods.
