X faces EU investigation over Grok's sexualized deepfakes

A European Commission inquiry will assess whether X adequately addressed and managed the risks associated with its AI chatbot Grok’s image generation capabilities within the EU. The move comes as advocacy groups and lawmakers worldwide have expressed concerns over Grok’s ability to generate sexually explicit images of women and minors on its platform. Following these concerns, X restricted access to the AI feature for public replies but did not block it entirely. The European Commission will evaluate whether X fulfilled its obligations in the region regarding the proper assessment and mitigation of risks related to this technology.
