X Sues Music Publishers Over DMCA Takedowns, Accusing Industry of Coercion
X has filed an antitrust lawsuit against music publishers and their trade group, the National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA), alleging that they have used the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) to coerce the company into licensing its content from the industry’s major players. The lawsuit claims that X was forced to remove allegedly infringing songs from its platform after receiving requests from music publishers and the NMPA, which are accused of colluding to deny X access to a competitive market.
