Anthropic Reaches $965 Billion Valuation, Surpasses OpenAI

Anthropic Raises $65 Billion from Investors Ahead of Expected IPO

Save Share Anthropic, the developer of the Claude family of chatbots, has secured $65 billion in funding from private investors ahead of its expected initial public offering. The company’s valuation has surged to $965 billion, surpassing OpenAI as the world’s most valuable artificial intelligence startup.

The fundraising round was led by Altimeter Capital, Greenoaks, Dragoneer, and Sequoia Capital. Anthropic’s CEO and co-founder Dario Amodei will lead the company as it prepares for its public listing.

According to Anthropic’s Chief Financial Officer Krishna Rao, the funding will help the company meet growing demand for its products, maintain its research efforts, and expand access to its technology. Altimeter Capital CEO Brad Gerstner noted that the adoption of Claude by “world’s most demanding organizations” demonstrates Anthropic’s leadership in the field.

Anthropic was founded in 2021 by former OpenAI researchers and has rapidly emerged as a major player in Silicon Valley’s AI landscape. Its chatbot, Claude, launched in 2023 and has gained significant popularity worldwide, with over 1 million new sign-ups each day.

The company has also faced challenges, including a high-profile dispute with the US President Donald Trump’s administration over its refusal to allow unrestricted access to its tools for military purposes. Anthropic recently unveiled its latest iteration of Claude, Opus 4.8, describing it as a “modest but tangible improvement” on its predecessor.

Anthropic is expected to go public alongside other prominent AI companies, including OpenAI and SpaceX, in what is anticipated to be one of the biggest initial public offerings in history.
