Asias Stock Markets Plummet Amid Ongoing Middle East Tensions

Asian Stocks Experience Significant Declines Amid Global Market Uncertainty

Stock markets in the Asia Pacific region have seen significant losses on Tuesday, following a mixed performance from US stocks overnight. The conflict between the US and Iran continued to escalate, with ongoing military operations in the Middle East. Key indexes in Japan, South Korea, Australia, and mainland China fell sharply, with some experiencing declines of over 6 percent.

South Korea’s KOSPI index saw the largest losses, plummeting by approximately 6.5 percent in afternoon trading. Japan’s Nikkei 225 followed suit, falling by about 3 percent. In Australia, the ASX 200 dropped around 1.5 percent. China’s SSE Composite Index also fell, with a decline of up to 1.3 percent before recovering later in the day.

Airlines, which have cancelled thousands of flights due to the conflict, were among the hardest hit. Korean Air saw its shares drop by more than 9 percent, while Japan Airlines experienced a decline of about 6 percent. The sell-off in Asian markets came after US stocks closed flat on Monday, despite concerns over the escalating economic risks of the conflict.

Energy prices also played a role in the market’s decline, with oil prices soaring as much as 13 percent on Monday before easing overnight. European gas prices surged by up to 50 percent on Monday following Qatar’s announcement that it had halted production amid Iranian attacks in the region.
