US President Donald Trump has warned that the US would increase attacks on Iran if it tries to close the Strait of Hormuz. The warning came as Iranian attacks continued in the region, with one person killed and eight injured in a residential building in Bahrain’s capital Manama.
Bahrain reported intercepting 102 missiles and 173 drones launched by Iran, which described the attack as “Iranian aggression”. In the UAE, incoming missile sirens sounded in Dubai, while Saudi Arabia destroyed two drones over its eastern region. Kuwait also shot down six drones attacking its northern and southern areas.
The attacks on neighboring Gulf states come amid a US-Israeli war on Iran. Trump told Republican lawmakers that the conflict was likely to be “short”. However, he later threatened increased US attacks if Iran tried to close the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran has been firing missiles and drones at Israeli and US bases in the region, as well as energy infrastructure. The attacks have led to oil prices soaring, with sites in Qatar also being targeted over the past 24 hours.
The escalating attacks have forced Qatar to stop some production due to disruptions in oil and gas shipments across the Strait of Hormuz. Saudi Arabia’s Shaybah oilfield has been hit by large numbers of drones, producing one million barrels of oil per day.
