Bollywood Legend Asha Bhosle Passes Away at Age 92

Legendary Indian playback singer Asha Bhosle Dies at 92

Asha Bhosle, a renowned Indian playback singer, passed away on Sunday at the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. She was 92 years old. According to her family, she had been admitted for “extreme exhaustion” and a chest infection.

Bhosle’s career spanned over seven decades, during which she recorded more than 12,000 songs in multiple Indian languages. Her son, Anand Bhosle, confirmed the news of her death, stating that her last rites would be held at Shivaji Park in Mumbai on Monday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indian President Droupadi Murmu have expressed their condolences over her passing. The Indian President described her death as “an irreparable loss to music lovers.”

Bhosle was born on September 8, 1933, to a musical family. She began singing at a young age alongside her elder sister, Lata Mangeshkar, after their father’s death. Bhosle forged her own path in the music industry, exploring genres from pop to folk.

Throughout her life, Bhosle received numerous accolades, including the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2001 and two Grammy nominations. She also collaborated with global artists, including a recent feature on British virtual band Gorillaz’s album The Mountain (Parvat).

Tributes have poured in from other music legends and Bollywood actors, including AR Rahman and Shankar Mahadevan. Bollywood actress Hema Malini has also paid tribute to Bhosle, stating that she is heartbroken over her passing.

Bhosle’s mortal remains will be kept at her residence in Mumbai until Monday morning, allowing people to pay their respects.
