Bosnia-Herzegovina Advances to Knockout Stages with Win Over Qatar
In their final Group B match, Bosnia-Herzegovina secured a 3-1 victory over Qatar, advancing to the knockout stages of the World Cup for the first time. The win brought Bosnia’s total points to four, positioning them well to be one of the top eight third-placed teams to proceed to the last 32.
The match saw several key moments, including goals from Bosnia’s youngest-ever World Cup player, Kerim Alajbegovic, and an own goal by Qatar goalkeeper Mahmoud Abunada. However, Qatar responded with a late goal from Hassan al-Haydos in the first half, before Ermin Mahmic sealed the win for Bosnia in the 80th minute.
Bosnia dominated the early stages of the match, testing Qatar’s goalkeeper twice within the first four minutes. Despite Qatar’s efforts to respond, it was Alajbegovic who broke the deadlock with a long-range shot. Dzeko later added to the scoreline with a goal that deflected off an opponent before entering the net.
Qatar’s chances were limited until al-Haydos scored in the 42nd minute, but Bosnia’s defense held firm until the end of the match. Al-Haydos suffered an injury in the 55th minute and was forced to leave the field, while Esmir came close to scoring a goal before being denied by Abunada.
The win marked a significant milestone for Bosnia-Herzegovina, who will now proceed to the knockout stages of the World Cup.
