CAF President Patrice Motsepe Rejects Corruption Allegations
The president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, has responded to allegations of corruption by the Senegalese government following the body’s decision to strip Senegal of its AFCON title and award it to Morocco.
Motsepe stated that he welcomes any legal action alleging corruption within CAF, emphasizing that there is nothing to hide. He expressed respect for the judicial and legal sovereignty of all 54 nations on the African continent.
The decision by CAF has been met with strong opposition from Senegal, whose government has called for an international investigation into suspected corruption within the institution. The Senegalese Football Federation has also appealed CAF’s decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Motsepe visited Morocco on Thursday and stated that he is confident in the outcome of any decisions made by the CAS. He reiterated his commitment to respecting the judicial and legal sovereignty of all nations.
The controversy surrounding CAF’s decision has sparked a heated debate, with Senegal’s government accusing the institution of corruption. Motsepe’s response has been met with skepticism by some, but he remains committed to upholding the rules and regulations of the organization.
The situation is ongoing, with the CAS set to make a decision on the appeal.
