In a match played at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium, Uruguay and Cape Verde drew 2-2, securing points for both teams in Group H of the FIFA World Cup. The draw has implications for both teams’ chances of advancing to the knockout phase.

Cape Verde took an early lead with Kevin Pina scoring their first World Cup goal from a free kick in the 21st minute. Uruguay responded with two goals before halftime, courtesy of Maxi Araujo and Agustin Canobbio. However, Cape Verde equalized just after the hour mark through Helio Varela’s strike.

The match ended with neither team able to find a winner, resulting in a draw that boosts Cape Verde’s hopes of reaching the knockout phase. In their final group game next Saturday, Cape Verde will face Saudi Arabia, while Uruguay will face Spain.

Uruguay coach Marcelo Bielsa made two changes to his team for this match, which was held by Saudi Arabia earlier on Sunday. Cape Verde’s Bubista opted for three alterations to his team, all in attacking positions. The match saw several key moments, including Federico Valverde’s shot wide and Pina’s long-range free kick that gave Uruguay goalkeeper Fernando Muslera trouble.

Uruguay now requires a win over Spain next weekend to avoid a second consecutive group-stage exit. Cape Verde, on the other hand, has boosted their chances of advancing with this draw and will look to secure a victory against Saudi Arabia in their final group game.
