A Car Bomb Explosion Occurs Near Syrian Defence Ministry Building
A blast occurred near the Syrian Defence Ministry building in the Bab Sharqi district of Damascus on Tuesday. According to officials, at least one soldier was killed and more than 20 people were wounded in the incident.
In a statement released by the ministry, it was reported that members of an army unit discovered an improvised explosive device planted near the site. As they attempted to defuse it, a car bomb exploded in the same area, according to the statement.
The head of Syria’s ambulance and emergency directorate, Najib al-Naasan, confirmed that at least 21 people were wounded and taken to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. Videos on social media showed smoke rising from the scene, with firefighters responding to extinguish the blaze.
There is no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. Security incidents have occurred intermittently in Syria since the fall of President Bashar al-Assad in late 2024, following more than 13 years of conflict.
The incident is part of a pattern of security incidents in Syria, including explosions targeting military and civilian vehicles. In recent months, similar attacks have occurred in other parts of the country, resulting in loss of life and injury to civilians.
