Tornadoes Cause Destruction in Michigan and Oklahoma, Authorities Warn of Further Storms
At least eight people have been killed as tornadoes swept through the states of Michigan and Oklahoma in the central United States. The National Weather Service has issued a warning for thunderstorms and flash flooding from the Great Lakes to Texas, with a possibility of additional tornadoes in the hours ahead.
According to reports, four people were killed in southern Michigan, while four others lost their lives in Oklahoma. Authorities have confirmed that three people were injured in Union Lake, Michigan, and one person was injured in Cass County, Oklahoma. In addition, two people were reported killed by a tornado in Beggs, Oklahoma, and two more fatalities were confirmed in Major County.
State Governor Kevin Stitt has declared a state of emergency for several counties in Oklahoma, including Alfalfa, Creek, Grant, Major, Okmulgee, Rogers, Tulsa, and Wagoner. The Branch County Sheriff’s Office is conducting damage assessments in the affected area in Michigan.
Rescue workers are continuing to assess the damage caused by the tornadoes, which left a trail of destruction, downed power lines, and damaged property in their wake. Local media footage shows destroyed cars and buildings in the aftermath of the storms.
