In a historic moment in Test cricket, West Indies all-rounder Justin Greaves has become the first bowler to take wickets in five consecutive maiden overs during an ongoing match against Pakistan. The 32-year-old achieved this feat on Monday, surpassing the previous record of four consecutive wicket maidens set by former England fast bowler Stuart Broad in 2016.

Greaves returned figures of 5-27 on the third day of play, contributing to a dramatic collapse of the Pakistani batting lineup. Pakistan was bowled out for 282 in reply to West Indies’ first-innings total of 311. Greaves claimed his maiden five-wicket haul and became the first player in Test history to achieve this record-breaking performance.

According to Greaves, he received instructions from captain Roston Chase to “continue being disciplined” and “see if I can get some wickets for the team.” The bowler attributed his success to the ball nipping around and getting a reward. He expressed happiness at achieving five wickets in Test cricket but acknowledged that there is still much work to be done in the game.

Pakistan was initially in command, with Shan Masood reaching a century, before Greaves triggered a collapse. The seamer dismissed Masood for 109 and then struck in consecutive maiden overs to remove Aamer Jamal, Ali Usman, and Mohammad Rizwan without conceding a run. Greaves completed the historic feat after the break when he had Mohammad Abbas caught behind, giving him five wickets from five successive maiden overs.

The match is currently underway, with West Indies holding an overall lead of 155 runs heading into the fourth day.
