Cricket Legends Urge Immediate Medical Attention for Imran Khan

Former International Cricketers Urge Pakistani Government to Provide Medical Attention for Imran Khan

A group of 14 former captains of the Pakistan cricket team has written a letter to the government, requesting immediate medical attention for Imran Khan, the country’s former cricket captain and prime minister. The letter was published by Australian media outlets on Tuesday.

The signatories include several Hall of Famers from the sport, including Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Clive Lloyd, Allan Border, Greg Chappell, Ian Chappell, John Wright, and David Gower. Khan, who represented Pakistan in 88 Test matches and 175 one-day internationals between 1971 and 1992, is widely regarded as one of the greatest all-round players in the sport.

According to reports, Khan’s health has deteriorated significantly while in custody, with a court-appointed lawyer claiming that he has been left with just 15 percent vision in his right eye. The government-appointed medical board examining Khan reported a significant improvement in his eyesight, but this claim has been rejected by Khan’s family.

The letter of appeal, drafted by Greg Chappell and delivered to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday afternoon, expresses deep concern over the treatment and incarceration conditions of Imran Khan. The former cricketers urge the government to ensure that Khan receives “immediate and adequate medical attention” befitting a former national leader and global sporting icon.

Khan’s supporters have held protests and sit-ins outside the Pakistani parliament in recent days, deploring the denial of access to his family and physicians recommended by them. His sons have been trying to visit Pakistan since last year but have had their visa applications rejected.
