Drone Strike Kills Three Children at Mosque in Central Sudan

A drone attack on a mosque in central Sudan has resulted in two children being killed and 13 others injured, according to reports from the Sudan Doctors Network. The incident occurred at dawn on Wednesday in North Kordofan State, where the Sheikh Ahmed al-Badawi Mosque was targeted by a drone.

The Sudan Doctors Network attributes the attack to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group involved in a three-year conflict with the Sudanese Armed Forces. The organization has previously reported similar attacks on other religious buildings, including a church in Khartoum and another mosque in el-Fasher.

The UN has also confirmed reports of drone attacks on civilian infrastructure in South Kordofan, North Kordofan, and West Kordofan states. A World Food Programme (WFP) warehouse in Kadugli was hit by a suspected rocket attack on Tuesday night, according to the UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric.

The Sudan Doctors Network has called for international action to address the targeting of civilians and ensure their protection. The organization has also urged the delivery of medical and humanitarian aid to affected areas and the documentation of these violations to hold those responsible accountable.

According to the UN, more than 90 civilian deaths and 142 injuries caused by drone strikes have been documented between January 28 and February 6. Targets included WFP convoys, markets, health facilities, and residential neighborhoods in southern and northern Kordofan.
