Egypt Secures First World Cup Victory After Comeback Against New Zealand
In a thrilling match at BC Place in Vancouver, Egypt defeated New Zealand 3-1 to claim their first-ever World Cup victory. The Pharaohs’ Mohamed Salah scored his first goal of the tournament, while Mostafa Zico also found the net and provided an assist.
The All Whites took an early lead through Finn Surman’s headed goal in the 15th minute, but Egypt rallied in the second half to take control of the match. A flurry of goals from Salah, Zico, and Trezeguet sealed the win for Egypt, who now top Group G with a perfect record.
Salah celebrated his 68th international goal with a goal in the 67th minute, and was substituted out of the game in the 85th minute to a standing ovation. The Egyptian team’s large contingent in the crowd played a significant role in their success, according to Salah.
Egypt will face Iran on Friday, while New Zealand will take on Belgium in an effort to advance from Group G. The group is currently open for the taking, following draws between Belgium and Iran earlier in the day.
