Egyptian footballer El-Shenawy banned four games for on-field altercation with referee

Egyptian Pro League Hands Down Four-Match Ban to Mohamed El-Shenawy

A four-match ban has been imposed on Egyptian goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shenawy by the Egyptian Pro League. The decision came after El-Shenawy was involved in an incident with a referee during Tuesday’s match against Ceramica Cleopatra, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

According to the league, El-Shenawy was found guilty of assaulting the referee by pushing or pulling them. As a result, he will be sidelined until the final week of the league playoffs. The ban also includes a fine of 50,000 Egyptian pounds, equivalent to $942.

El-Shenawy’s involvement in the incident occurred after Al-Ahly’s appeal for a penalty following a handball in stoppage time was denied. The goalkeeper was on the bench at the time and appeared to be upset by the decision.

The ban affects El-Shenawy’s participation in upcoming matches, including potentially affecting his role as Egypt’s starting goalkeeper at the World Cup in North America. Al-Ahly currently sit third in the league standings with 41 points, five points behind leaders Zamalek.
