England Set to Face Nepal in 2026 T20 World Cup Opener
The England cricket team will begin their campaign in the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup against Nepal at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, India on Sunday. The match is scheduled to take place at 3pm GMT.
According to Will Jacks, an all-rounder and teammate of England captain Harry Brook, the players have “100 percent” support for Brook despite recent controversy surrounding his leadership. Brook has been under scrutiny following an altercation with a nightclub bouncer during England’s white ball tour of New Zealand last year.
Jacks stated that he was not aware of the incident at the time but acknowledged that it was a “terrible mistake.” He added that Brook is making amends on the pitch and that the team backs him fully.
England come into the World Cup in good form, having won a 3-0 series against Sri Lanka earlier this week. The team’s performance has been consistent over the past 12 months since Harry Brook took over as captain.
The match against Nepal is expected to be an opportunity for Brook to shift the focus back onto his batting. England are also looking to build on their momentum, having performed well in previous tournaments.
Nepal made their debut at the 2014 edition of the competition but were eliminated at the first stage both times. The team will face a tough challenge against England, who are joint-record winners of the T20 World Cup with two trophy lifts to their name.
The match will be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday at 3pm GMT.
