Two US citizens and one French woman who recently flew back to their homes have tested positive for hantavirus, according to US health officials.
The individuals were among those evacuated from the MV Hondius cruise ship, which was affected by a hantavirus outbreak earlier this month. The ship’s passengers and crew underwent medical screening before disembarking in the Netherlands.
Following their return flights, the French woman and two US citizens underwent testing for hantavirus at local health facilities. The test results confirmed that they had contracted the virus.
US officials have announced plans to conduct clinical assessments on all American passengers who flew back from the Netherlands. This move is aimed at identifying any potential cases of hantavirus infection among those who were exposed during their time on the ship.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a statement confirming that two US citizens and one French woman have tested positive for hantavirus. The CDC is working closely with local health authorities to monitor the situation and provide guidance on any necessary precautions or treatments.
The incident highlights the potential risks associated with traveling during outbreaks, and the importance of taking preventive measures to minimize exposure to infectious diseases.
