FBI investigates Texas bar shooting with potential terrorism connection

A mass shooting occurred in Austin, Texas, on Sunday morning, resulting in two fatalities and 14 injuries. The incident is being investigated as a potential act of terrorism by the FBI.

53-year-old Ndiaga Diagne was identified as the suspect, who used both a pistol and a rifle to carry out the attack. According to police, Diagne drove past Buford’s Backyard Beer Garden several times before stopping and shooting at people on a patio and in front of the bar from his SUV window.

After parking his vehicle, Diagne got out with a rifle and began shooting at people walking in the area. Officers responded quickly, rushing to the intersection where they shot and killed Diagne. Three of those injured were in critical condition as of Sunday morning.

The White House confirmed that President Donald Trump had been briefed on the incident, which occurred a day after the United States and Israel launched an attack on Iran that killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Details about Diagne’s clothing, including a sweatshirt with “Property of Allah” and a shirt featuring an Iranian flag design, have not been officially confirmed. Texas Governor Greg Abbott warned that the state would respond aggressively to anyone trying to use the current conflict in the Middle East to threaten Texas.

The University of Texas president expressed condolences for those impacted, stating that some of the victims were members of the university’s community. The entertainment district has a heavy police presence on weekends, and officers responded quickly to the incident, saving lives.
