Federal authorities investigate alleged pipe bombers motives on January 6 incident

A suspect in a pipe bombing case has been identified by the Department of Justice (DOJ). According to the DOJ, the individual allegedly planted pipe bombs near the Capitol building before January 6.

The suspect reportedly told authorities that “something just snapped,” according to the DOJ. The suspect’s statement suggests a sudden change in behavior or motivation.

In addition to the pipe bombings near the Capitol, the suspect also admitted to leaving bombs at the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and Republican National Committee (RNC) headquarters.

The FBI has confirmed that the suspect targeted U.S. political parties, according to a memo obtained by NPR.

The DOJ has not released further information on the suspect’s identity or charges pending.

The incident occurred before January 6, when Congress was set to certify President Biden’s victory.
