FIFA Announces Increased World Cup Prize Money and Team Fees

FIFA Announces Plans to Increase Funding for World Cup Participation Costs

In a move aimed at addressing concerns raised by European teams, FIFA has confirmed that it is in discussions with national football associations to increase prize money and financial contributions for all participating teams in the upcoming 2026 World Cup. The proposal must be approved at an upcoming FIFA Council meeting.

The current World Cup prize fund stands at $727 million, with the winning team set to receive $50 million and each team receiving at least $10.5 million. However, FIFA has announced plans to increase this amount, with projections suggesting that the world governing body will surpass $11 billion in revenue for the 2023-2026 cycle.

FIFA has been engaged in talks with national associations, including UEFA, which has expressed concerns about the costs associated with participating in the World Cup. The proposed increase in financial contributions is aimed at addressing these concerns, particularly in relation to travel, operations, and taxes.

The FIFA Council meeting will take place on Tuesday before the 76th FIFA Congress in Vancouver, Canada. The World Cup is scheduled to run from June 11 to July 19.
