Three teams will compete in World Cup matches on Tuesday, seeking to secure spots in the knockout stage’s next round. France, Norway, and Mexico are among the contenders vying for places in the Round of 16.
Ivory Coast is set to face Norway, marking their first competitive meeting between the two nations. Norway has traditionally fared well against African teams, having lost only two of their 19 meetings with CAF nations across all competitions. According to pre-match simulations, Norway is favored to progress, winning in normal time 56.1 percent of the time.
France will meet Sweden for the first time at a FIFA World Cup, despite having met each other 23 times across all competitions. France holds an advantage over Sweden, with 12 wins to six. The Opta supercomputer gives France a commanding edge, predicting they will win in normal time 75.1 percent of the time.
Mexico and Ecuador will also compete, having met only once before at the FIFA World Cup. Recent meetings have been more evenly matched, but Mexico is still favored to progress, winning in normal time 47.1 percent of the time. A draw after 90 minutes occurred in 29.2 percent of simulations, making extra time a realistic possibility.
Morocco has already advanced to the Round of 16 by beating the Netherlands 3-2 in a penalty shootout. They will now face Canada in the next round on Saturday.
