Israeli Attacks in Southern Lebanon Intensify
A recent surge in Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon has resulted in the deaths of at least 51 individuals over the past 24 hours, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry. The ministry reported that two medical workers were among those killed.
The attacks have occurred despite a ceasefire that was brokered by the United States and went into effect on April 16. However, the number of casualties has continued to rise since then.
According to the UN, at least 103 Lebanese medical workers have been killed and 230 injured in more than 130 Israeli strikes since March 2. The Lebanese Civil Defence has reported that its personnel are under constant threat, with many expressing concerns about their safety.
Dr. Tahir Mohammed, a war surgeon who has worked in both Gaza and Lebanon, noted similarities between the treatment of medical workers in these locations. He stated that he had seen colleagues killed by Israeli weapons in Gaza and is concerned about the consistent policy of targeting healthcare workers in Lebanon.
The attacks have also resulted in the displacement of over 1.2 million Lebanese people since March 2. The situation remains dire, with many expressing fear for their lives.
As of Sunday, a total of 2,846 people have been killed across Lebanon since the start of Israeli military operations on March 2.
