French Open Tournament Director Announces No Change in Player Share of Revenue
The French Open prize money remains unchanged for this year’s tournament, despite player complaints about reduced pay. According to Amelie Mauresmo, tournament director and former Australian Open and Wimbledon champion, the organizers are not planning to alter the players’ share of revenue.
Top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka and fourth-ranked Coco Gauff have led a group of players in expressing dissatisfaction with the current arrangement, which they claim has been reduced from 22 percent at standard ATP and WTA events. The players have also criticized the organizers for increasing prize money by only 5.4 percent, despite a reported 14 percent year-on-year increase in revenue.
Mauresmo stated that she remains open to dialogue with the players and their representatives, and a meeting is expected on Friday to discuss the issue. However, when asked if there was any possibility of changing the prize money this year, Mauresmo replied that “no changes are planned.” The entire French Open pot increased by 5.3 million euros ($6.1m) from last year, with the singles champions set to receive 2.8 million euros ($3.2m), an increase of 250,000 euros ($289,700) from 2025.
Mauresmo acknowledged that discussions will continue after the tournament, saying “I’m not going to tell you that everything will be resolved with the snap of a finger.” The players’ representatives have planned limited interaction with reporters during Friday’s media day, which may be seen as a gesture of protest.
