Gaza Sees Rising Death Toll Amid Ongoing Conflict
A recent report from Palestine’s Ministry of Health has confirmed that over 72,000 people have been killed in Gaza since the start of the conflict six months ago. The majority of these fatalities are children and women. In addition to the high number of deaths, more than 172,000 people have been injured.
The situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate, with over 10% of its population affected by violence. The death toll has surpassed 72,000 people, while at least 172,000 others are believed to be trapped under rubble.
According to the United States-brokered ceasefire agreement, which took effect on October 10, Israel has repeatedly violated the terms of the agreement through near-daily attacks. Since February 28, Israeli authorities have closed all Gaza crossings, halting medical evacuations and restricting essential food and medical supplies.
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to worsen, with the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs documenting over 18,500 patients needing medical evacuation. Despite limited resumption of medical evacuations through Rafah on March 19, only approximately 8% of agreed-upon travellers have been permitted to leave for treatment since February 28.
The Gaza Government Media Office has disputed claims that 602 aid trucks entered the territory in one day, stating that only 207 trucks actually arrived, with just 79 carrying humanitarian assistance. The office has also criticized Israel’s implementation of the humanitarian protocol under the ceasefire agreement, saying it falls significantly short of agreed-upon levels.
The situation in Gaza remains dire, with widespread devastation and a severe acute food insecurity affecting over 77% of the population.
