Gaza Palestinians Face Food Shortages and Restrictions During Ramadan Period

Gaza Residents Face Food Shortages Amid Ongoing Conflict During Ramadan

Palestinians in Gaza began observing the Islamic holy month of Ramadan on Wednesday, but many are struggling to access basic necessities like food and clean water due to ongoing Israeli attacks. The conflict has continued despite a “ceasefire” deal that was supposed to bring an end to hostilities.

Under the agreement, at least 600 aid trucks were expected to enter Gaza daily, but the actual number is significantly lower. As a result, many families are relying on soup kitchens and aid distribution schedules to get by. The Israeli government has refused to allow more aid and basic supplies into the territory.

Meanwhile, Israel has continued to carry out attacks on Gaza, killing over 600 Palestinians since the “ceasefire” began. In occupied East Jerusalem, thousands of worshippers gathered at Al-Aqsa Mosque for tarawih prayers, despite heightened tensions and increased security measures by Israeli authorities.

The Jerusalem governorate reported that more than 250 orders barring Palestinians from entering Al-Aqsa have been issued since January 2026. Israel has also intensified operations in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, since launching its military campaign on Gaza in October 2023.

Ramadan is a significant month for Muslims, who fast from dawn to dusk and gather with family and friends after sunset to break their fast. The holy month marks an important period in Islamic tradition, during which Muslims believe the first verses of the Quran were revealed to the Prophet Muhammad nearly 1,450 years ago.
