Russian authorities have detained a German woman found carrying a homemade bomb in her backpack, according to the Federal Security Service (FSB). The incident occurred on Monday in Pyatigorsk, a city in the southern region of Russia.
The FSB stated that the woman was recruited by an individual from Central Asia, who allegedly worked on orders from Ukraine. This person was subsequently arrested near the targeted site. According to the agency, the device contained an explosive charge equivalent to 1.5kg (3 pounds) of TNT and was intended for remote detonation.
The FSB claims that electronic jamming prevented a potential blast at a law enforcement facility in the Stavropol region. The agency has arrested dozens of individuals on allegations of working for Ukraine to carry out sabotage attacks during the ongoing conflict.
Video footage published by Russian news agencies shows armed security agents approaching the woman as she was face down in a car park, and masked plainclothes agents arresting another individual near the targeted site. A controlled explosion was also observed at the scene.
This incident is part of a series of arrests made by Russia on allegations of Ukrainian involvement in sabotage attacks within its borders.
