Lunar New Year Celebrations Take Place Across Asia and Beyond
People around the world are celebrating the Lunar New Year with various cultural events and displays. On Monday night, crowds gathered at temples and festivals in multiple countries, including China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Taiwan, Russia, and Argentina.
In some locations, devotees participated in traditional rituals such as lighting incense and offering wishes for the coming year. In Hong Kong, individuals lined up at midnight to light incense and make New Year’s wishes. Meanwhile, in Vietnam, musical countdown performances and fireworks were part of the Tet festivities.
In Taiwan, worshippers took part in a symbolic 108-bell ring ceremony, while in Beijing, crowds burned incense and prayed for happiness and success. The CCTV Spring Festival gala also featured a martial arts performance by children and robots, including humanoids from Unitree Robotics.
The celebrations extended beyond Asia, with visitors in Moscow sampling Chinese delicacies and strolling through streets adorned with red lanterns and dragon decorations. In Argentina’s Chinatown, thousands gathered to celebrate, watching dragon and lion dances and martial arts demonstrations.
These events mark the transition from the Year of the Snake to the Year of the Horse in the 12-animal Chinese zodiac cycle. The Lunar New Year is a significant holiday in China, with its importance extending throughout East Asia and diaspora communities worldwide.
