Goldman Sachs Lawyer Kathy Ruemmler Resigns Amid Epstein Ties Allegations

Goldman Sachs Announces Departure of Top Lawyer Amid Epstein Revelations

Kathy Ruemmler, the top lawyer at Goldman Sachs, has announced her resignation following the release of investigative files by the US Department of Justice regarding her connections to late financier Jeffrey Epstein. The news comes after emails revealed that Ruemmler had received gifts from Epstein, offered him advice on managing his reputation, and likened him to an older brother.

According to a statement provided by Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon, Ruemmler will step down as chief legal officer and general counsel at the end of June. Solomon described Ruemmler as “an extraordinary general counsel” who has made significant contributions to the firm. He also expressed his respect for her decision to leave.

In an interview with the Financial Times, Ruemmler stated that media attention on her relationship with Epstein had become a distraction. She previously expressed regret for knowing Epstein and denied providing him with legal representation or advocating on his behalf to any third party.

Ruemmler’s departure follows a series of high-profile exits and investigations related to Epstein’s case. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced the resignation of his cabinet secretary, Chris Wormald, amid controversy surrounding his appointment of Peter Mandelson, who has ties to Epstein. Additionally, police in Norway searched properties belonging to former Prime Minister Thorbjorn Jagland as part of a corruption probe focused on his associations with Epstein.

Ruemmler’s resignation is the latest development in the ongoing fallout from Epstein’s death in prison in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.
