US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has deployed personnel to several US airports, including Houston and Atlanta, in response to ongoing security concerns during a partial government shutdown.
According to reports, the deployment of ICE agents began on Monday at some US airports. The move is intended to assist with TSA operations and address security issues that have arisen due to the prolonged shutdown.
In a statement, Mayor Andre Dickens confirmed that ICE agents would be deployed to Atlanta’s airport as part of the effort to enhance security measures.
Separately, Tom Homan, the acting director of ICE, has confirmed that the agency will be present at airports starting on Monday. The deployment is aimed at providing additional support for TSA operations and addressing concerns about security during the shutdown.
Additionally, Axios reported that ICE agents have been deployed to assist with TSA operations in Houston.
The deployment of ICE agents to US airports comes as the partial government shutdown continues, with many federal agencies operating under reduced staff or being closed altogether. The move is intended to address security concerns and provide additional support for airport operations during this time.
